3. After approval of the proposal, you will send you an email with the expected proposed completion date, the final price and ask for any photos needed to be emailed to me.
Once I begin, allow a minimum of two weeks to six weeks for completion, depending on the complexity of the project. When I am finished, I will email or mail you a photo of the finished piece. (Please be aware that the picture will not be as clear and rich in color as the original.) If the piece is approved, you will send the balance of the fee, and I will ship the piece to you by the method you choose.
All pieces are shipped unframed, unless otherwise specified. The piece can be framed, and I will only charge my actual cost for framing plus additional shipping. I try, whenever possible, to make the finished piece be a standard framing size to keep your cost of framing down.
Or...keep it really simple, and order a gift certificate! Let the recipient make all of the decisions. Contact me, and I can send you one for any amount over $100. (Most people don't like getting 1/2 of a portrait!)
Tips for photographs:
-Please note that I can only draw what I see. You know your subject much more intimately than I do. Therefore, it is important that you send me the best possible photo reference.
-DO NOT SEND RARE PHOTOS!
-The most important thing is that the photograph is clear, in focus, and large enough for me to be able to see the features well. A face in a picture should be at least the size of an egg.
The photograph should have good lighting. That is not to say that there cannot be any shadow. In fact, my favorite pictures to work with are those taken outside on a sunny day with a shadow on a small portion of the face. Just make sure that the features are not obscured by shadow.
The most interesting portraits in my opinion are those using a photo reference that has a natural or candid pose. If you have a formal portrait taken, it doesn't make too much sense to have me redo the same pose. I am also bound by copyright laws, so keep this in mind. It is much better to send me your favorite snapshot. Chances are, it will be more reflective of the personality of the subject, and the setting may have special meaning to you.
If possible, send more that one photo of the subject. This helps me capture the likeness.
As emphasized above, do not send rare or irreplaceable photos. I will do everything humanly possible to return your photo(s) in the condition I received them. However, I cannot be responsible for damage or loss that may occur in the mail.
With respect to the deposit, once the assignment is started, the deposit becomes non-refundable. This covers just a small portion of my time and cost of materials.
I will email you with pictures of the finished product. I will make reasonable revisions until you are satisfied!
